Limon, Costa Rica

Two main natural attractions in this gritty port are: Tortuguero Canal and Cahuita National Park.   A shore excursion of several hours offered only a glimpse into these two ecological havens.

Tortuguero Canal

This canal flows through lush rainforest inundated with wildlife.  Unfortunately, we only booked a one hour tour, and did not venture farther into more remote region of the canal.

Fresh water canal meets Caribbean Sea

Tortuguero – Turtle Catcher – is derived from the egg laying turtles that frequents this region.  To witness this special event requires permits and involving arrangement, and is not in the scope of one day shore excursion.   Above, a type of ducks per our guide.

“Jesus Lizard” – it could walk across water
